The Apocalypse is at hand!

Set in a dark, windowless basement in a city, the King awaits signs that the world will come to an end.

Practicals

I chose to use practical lighting (the strings of party lights, the bare bulbs on the wall) to reinforce the idea that we are in a place without easy access to natural light. The lighting needed to convey the story of the locked, damp room.

Final moments

When the revelation finally comes to the King, a grand moment of fog, unbelievable noise, and blinding light end the play. This is the first and only time that color enters the lighting palette.

The lighting created a grim, yet snug space for the action of the play.
